Leakster Evan Blass provided a pretty good indication of when we can expect to see the HTC One M10 launched. He drew our attention to the date on the screen of an image he had previously leaked, which shows Tuesday, April 19.

HTC One M10 name

There’s been a lot of speculation of the HTC One M10 name, and whether that is in fact what it will be called upon release. Given the sub-par performance of the M9, perhaps HTC is looking towards a little rebranding for this next model.

First it was suggested that the phone would be called the HTC O2, but then this was reportedly killed off and replaced by the HTC Perfume, according to leakster LlabTooFeR. The latter name carries the suspicious air of a codename. The likelihood of seeing a smartphone named Perfume on the market this year seems remote.

A purported HTC web survey leaked by TechTastic shows the HTC One M10’s name in multiple sources apparently from the HTC site, including a drop-down list for devices the customer might need service for. The list can be seen below.

HTC One M10 price

The HTC One M10 price has not yet been announced. But it is expected to be a high-end flagship, so a launch price of around US$700 seems probable.

HTC One M10 specs

Evan Blass continues to supply reliable leaks on the One M10. Writing for VentureBeat, he relayed the words of a source who has seen the device in person.

They claim it is a 5.1-inch device with a QHD AMOLED display. That screen will be kept pretty by a Snapdragon 820 processor and the Adreno 530 GPU. It will also pack in 4 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage (23 GB of which is free), which can be expanded via the microSD slot. It is said to come running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with HTC’s Sense 8.0 UI over the top.

After eyeing the competition at MWC, HTC’s Chief Financial Officer, Chialin Chang, felt comfortable enough to state that the HTC One M10 will offer a “very, very compelling camera experience”. While he didn’t dish out any details, the HTC One M10’s camera is rumored to come in at 12 MP and feature optical image stabilization and laser autofocus.

Renowned leakster @LlabTooFeR tweeted that the HCT One M10 will come in three versions, with differing internal memory sizes: 16, 32 and 64 GB. These versions’ availability will depend on the market in which you’re shopping, apparently.

HTC One M10 design

In January, renowned leakster Evan Blass tweeted that “if you like the A9, you’ll love the M10”, suggesting that HTC is sticking to its iPhone guns for the One M10 design, despite the significant criticism the A9 received.

Evan Blass gave greater credibility to the above claim on February 8, when he tweeted an image purporting to show the HTC One M10. It does indeed bear an uncanny resemblance to the HTC One A9, but the home button is more rounded, making it even more similar to an iPhone.

Two other things of note are that the HTC logo has been removed from the front of the device and the Boomsound speakers are absent.

Evan Blass continues, relentlessly, to supply HTC One M10 leaks, and on February 18, he posted an image of the front of a white device he claimed to be the HTC One M10. It appears very similar to the image above, except the home button is slightly larger. There also appears to be a proximity sensor above the speaker, which isn’t visible on the black device above.

We look set to receive in the HTC One M10 in a variety of colors. So far, we’ve seen an all-black device, a black-on-silver device and, most recently, a white-on-silver device.

HTC One M10 features

The Achilles heel of recent HTC flagships has undoubtedly been the rear camera. Moving the 4 MP (sorry, “UltraPixel”) camera from the back of the HTC One M8 to the front of the One M9 was a great move, but the 20.7 MP camera on the back of the M9 proves that a high megapixel count doesn’t automatically equate to a great camera.

We’d like better autofocus technology, an aperture of at least f/2.0, and optical image stabilization on the One M10, if HTC is to finally become a contender in the camera department. According to the leaker LlabTooFeR, the One M10 could offer a Samsung s5k4e6 5 MP UltraPixel front camera and a Sony IMX337 (same as on the Nexus 5X and 6P) 12 MP main camera with laser autofocus.

Evan Blass, renowned leakster, also revealed, via his own source, that the rear camera is set to be 12 MP and feature laser-assisted autofocus and optical image stabilization.

The Dutch publication TechTastic has leaked a possible sample picture from the HTC One M10. The photo was apparently shot in 16:9 aspect with a resolution of 2,250 x 4,000. The picture is of a Chinese keyboard and can be seen below.

One of the biggest surprises to have emerged from MWC 2015 was the announcement of the HTC Vive, a virtual reality headset designed in collaboration with PC gaming platform Steam.

From what we know so far, the Vive will be aimed at PC gamers, and early tests suggest it has huge potential to lead the virtual reality revolution. With HTC’s main focus still being the mobile market, we’re wondering whether the powerful VR headset will have some part to play with the HTC One M10. This will to some extent depend on the graphical firepower of the One M10 , because utilizing such a technology on below-par visuals would be a waste of its potential.

HTC hasn’t indicated that the Vive will be used with its mobile devices, but we’re hoping it doesn’t forget the mobile medium on which it built its reputation.

Turning from the mind-blowing to the mundane but extremely useful, we think that USB Type-C is the most exciting cable since HDMI. You can expect to see it included on the HTC One M10. What’s so exciting about it? Reversible ends, faster charging, faster data transfers and compatibility with larger devices like laptops. That not enough for you? Read our piece on why USB-C is the all-in-one cable you’ve been waiting for.

HTC One M10 display

The specs leak mentioned above claims the HTC One M10 display will be a 5.1-inch QHD AMOLED unit.

The aforementioned screen size rumor was contradicted by renowned leakster @LlabTooFeR, who tweeted that the device will have a 5.2-inch WQHD screen.
