Today, Snail Games announced that its open world voxel-based survival game PixARK will enter Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview in late March. As the name suggests, the game has been inspired by the world of Ark: Survival Evolved and other such survival titles.
PixARK will be coming to Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 in 2018. It’s unclear if the game will support PlayStation 4 Pro as the press release only confirms Xbox One X support specifically. There was no mention of Sony’s upgraded console.
Just like Ark: Survival Evolved, PixARK leaves a group of players stranded on a mysterious island. As expected, to survive, they must hunt, harvest, craft items, grow crops, and build shelters to protect themselves from dinosaurs, natural disasters, and hostile human players. The developer claims that interactions with other players can be cooperative but it’s probably safer to assume that they won’t be.
You can also tame certain creatures, which plays a major role in the experience. The game is basically Ark: Survival Evolved with Minecraft visuals. Alongside the PixARK announcement, Peter Kang, the director of live operations and business development at Snail Games, issued the following statement to gamers.
With PixARK, we’ve taken the action and excitement that older players know and love in ARK to a new direction in order to introduce that world to an entirely different audience. PixARK is a fun, colorful game that introduces players of all ages to ARK while adding creative building modes and a clever pick-up-and-play experience.
PixARK is heavily inspired by Minecraft so expect many of the same abilities in this game. The quest system seems to be the biggest differentiating factor between the two. Some of the key features in the game are as follows.
- Single-player and online multiplayer modes for co-op or competitive play.
- Over a hundred dinosaurs and other creatures to tame.
- Character progression and customization.
- Procedurally-generated worlds so each level is unique.
- Minecraft-like “Creative Mode” which allows players to build what they want without fear.
- Unique biomes such as deserts and forests just like Minecraft.
- Procedurally-generated quest system to keep players engaged over time.
The game definitely has an interesting premise so hopefully will deliver when it’s available on Xbox One and PC in a few months. Those who want to play the more mature version can do so right now. Ark: Survival Evolved is an extreme survival game which requires patience as well as resource-gathering to succeed.
The title is incredibly popular and has been played by over twelve million players since it launched on Steam in 2015. The game has numerous servers so you can team up with your friends and other individuals to conquer the challenges together. You also have to uncover the mystery of the Ark and why you’re there. Be sure to check out the title at retailers, especially if you have an Xbox One X.
