What I love about Apple is the fact that you have you own personal assistant with you no matter where you go, so long as you bring your iPhone with you. Saying “Hey, Siri” automatically opens her up, available for you to use without even needing to type! This is not only limited to iPhones. Did you know that this also works for your Macbook, too? Originally, you are supposed to hit the function key twice on your Macbook to open Siri up, but if you are usually in a hurry or prefer a voice command, there’s a way to do that! If you want to add this feature to your laptop, here’s how to add the “Hey, Siri” command to your Macbook.
Add Hey Siri Voice Command on Mac:
1. Go to System Preferences > Dictation and Speech. Once there, tick the box that’s beside “Use Enhanced Dictation“. This requires you to install a 1.2GB file for you to be able to use the enhanced dictation offline.
Note: You might be wondering what the 1.2GB file has besides the ability to use enhanced dictation when offline. This file will be able to speed up the dictation process and enhance the understandability of your words when speaking to your Macbook. Instead of wasting time waiting for Macbook to understand your words or having to keep repeating what you say, this file is able to understand your words better and make sure it’s getting the right command!
2. Go to System Preferences > Accessibility, then look for “Dictation” at the left side of the panel. Tick the box that says “”Enable the dictation keyboard“. The keyword is “Computer“, so you are now able to say “Computer, start/stop dictation“, or you can change the name to whatever you want to call your Macbook!
Very simple and takes just a few minutes, you will be able to use the “Hey, Siri” command on your Macbook in just two steps!
Siri is one of the best voice command applications installed in Apple’s models, helping you navigate your way through the city, Googling things you need to know, down to talking about personal things and getting funny responses! It doesn’t only keep you up to date with news, but it provides a source of entertainment when bored and wanting to talk. What’s great about it is that you won’t need to type commands and just say it, so you save time and effort typing. If you find it easier voicing your commands rather than typing it out on your keyboard, then now you know what to do!
Siri is rumored to head on to Macs with the new update (10.12), so watch out for that! Check Apple’s websites for more updates and news on Siri. And if you want to know more about what Siri can do for you and your Apple device, you can easily check for the commands she is able to do online, or in Apple’s help support. Enjoy the hands-free personal assistant and let Siri do the research and work for you!
