The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are only a few days old, but we’re already spotting some noteworthy deals on Google’s new flagships.
Slated to ship on October 19, the Pixel 2 retails for $649, whereas the larger Pixel 2 XL starts at $849.
It’s worth noting that sales of the phones are somewhat limited, but that hasn’t stopped retailers from offering some head-turning discounts. One noteworthy deal that applies to all stores is that you can get a free Google Home Mini when you purchase either the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL. That’s a $49 value and a nice bundle every shopper should take advantage of.
The Google Store will be where most shoppers will start their search, but here you’ll pay list price for the phones — $649 for the Pixel 2 and $849 for the Pixel 2 XL. The only way you can score a discount with Google is if you have a mint-condition smartphone you can trade in. Google will give you from $70 to $410 for your trade-in. Naturally, it’s Google’s previous generation Pixels that will fetch you the most money. For instance, a mint condition 128GB Pixel XL will get you the full $410, whereas a 32GB Motorola Nexus 6 will only get you $70.
Your credit card is credited after Google receives your old handheld, so you’ll have to pay full price for your new Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL.
Verizon Wireless is the exclusive carrier of Google’s new phones, but you can purchase unlocked versions of the Pixels to use on other carriers. Otherwise, if you purchase through Verizon your only chance at scoring a discount is if you trade in an older phone. Although Google offers more for your trade in, Verizon is accepting a slightly larger number of phones, including models like the Galaxy S6, HTC M9, and Moto Z Play. Verizon will give you from $100 to $300 for your trade in.
Call it the ultimate troll move, but T-Mobile is offering a better deal on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL than both Google and Verizon. What’s best is that T-Mobile isn’t even selling the phone. This is a BYO deal in which you purchase the phone elsewhere and then sign up for service at T-Mobile to get 50 percent refunded back to you via a prepaid MasterCard. After discount, that means you’re paying $324.50 for the base Pixel 2 and $424.50 for the base Pixel 2 XL. It’s hands-down the best deal you’ll find on Google’s new kit.
We’re big fans of Best Buy’s Pixel sale. They’re basically offering the 128GB Pixel 2 for the price of the 64GB model. So rather than pay $749, you’ll pay $649.92 ($27.98/month over 24 months). While not as aggressive, Best Buy is also taking $25 off the 128GB Pixel 2 XL, which they sell for $924.72 ($38.53/month over 24 months).
Best Buy also has the base 64GB models on sale. Under monthly installments, the 64GB Pixel 2 sells for $549.84 ($22.91/month over 24 months), whereas the 64GB Pixel 2 XL sells for $824.64 ($34.36/month over 24 months).
